I was pleasantly surprised today by flocks of White-throated Sparrows at
Turkey Point. This seems earlier than in past years. They weren't very
vocal, but they were sure visible near the big puddle at the top of the long
meadow.

Turkey Point was very birdy this morning, with many warblers moving through.
The few that I could identify were Worm Eating, N. Parula, Magnolia, and
Palm. But there were many more. I think we should all petition David Sibley
to include a page of confusing fall warbler butts in the next edition. I'd
like to see the tail end as seen from below and the abdomen/throat as seen
from below-and each illustration should have a large twig running through
the middle of it.

Among the other fun birds today were many Ruby-crowned Kinglets, a squawking
Pileated flyby, a low-flying loon heading north (it looked chunky-is that a
Common Loon?), and Cardinals that look all spiffy again now that they're
finished molting.

Hawks were a little slow at first but I ended up with 39 Sharp-shinned, 5
Cooper's, 1 Broad-winged, 1 Peregrine Falcon, 1 Osprey, and 19 Monarch
butterflies.

Cheers,
