I was joined by Chad Kauffman, from PA, for a morning of birding at Finzel
Swamp. Without a doubt the sparrows stole the show with 9 Emberizids
present. The best of these was a single FOX SPARROW; however, the five
LINCOLN'S SPARROWS and multitude of WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS were great as
well. Other boreal highlights included 32 PINE SISKINS, 8 PURPLE FINCHES,
and 2 NASHVILLE WARBLERS. Also, among the many SWAMP SPARROWS was a
color-banded individual (white-green-aluminum). Others were banded there
this summer and if anyone sees any of these throughout the fall/winter,
please let me know.
