On a nice walk on portions of Prettyboy watershed trails this morning
with John Landers and Kevin Graff, we saw a number of Pine Siskins
in the company of numerous Goldfinches feeding in on the cones of
what appeared to be Larch/Tamarak (Laris laricina). I don't recall any
one mentioning this as a possible food source before. Perhaps, also, a
possible place to look for crossbills?

Incidentally, on a swing back by Jeanne Bowman's place off Middle-
town Rd. to view her feeders, we were rewarded with good views of
both Pine Siskins and Purple Finches. The Cherry Tomato "socks" she
converted to feeders for thistle seed were especially popular with both
the Goldfinches and Pine Siskins.
