Frustrated with all the reports of siskins this winter and the lack of siskins in Greenbelt, I was about to send an en email asking anyone to send siskins to Greenbelt when I turned around to look at the thistle feeder and saw two, no, three streaked "goldfinches" where regular goldfinches normally feed. Add Greenbelt to the list of siskin locations in '09!

p.s. Also had the first purple finch (a female) of the season (and year) at the thistle yesterday, which afforded excellent views of notched tail, fine streaking underneath and streaking on back.

As requested, a siskin arrived in my yard this morning. The oh-so-helpful
Helen Horrocks promised yesterday to send me one of hers so I wouldn't feel
left out. Thanks, Helen, you're the greatest!
