Greetings,

I spent the day at Assateague Island National Seashore. The two Snowy
Owls were present and accounted for. They are both closer to the ORV
entrance to the beach than in December. The "new" Snowy Owl (or at
least I think it is the new one) hangs out near the bull pen for
overnight RV's . This is appx. 2 1/2 miles from the entrance to the
sand but he might be north or south of the bull pen. The other owl was
only about a mile further south. The "new" owl had blood around the
mouth and on the feet suggesting that it had recently fed. I have been
wondering what they are feeding on. Both owls look very healthy. As I
left just after sunset I noticed all the rabbits running around. The
amount of blood on the "new" owl suggests prey larger than a mouse or
vole. I will post a few photos tomorrow.
Also, a very interesting black and white bird flew over twice while I
was there. It few out to sea and some time later returned heading
inland. I didn't have time to get the binocs on it but it wouldn't
surprise me if it was the razorbill reported last week.
