Pat and all,
We are now officially tufted. We found the duck at the end of a peer
labeled 'A' I think, and there was a little white building with sort of a
reddish-brown roof off to our left. However it was sleeting kinda hard and
we didn't want to be out there any longer than necessary. Oddly there were
very few birders out there when we were there. We did not find any Barrow's
Goldeneyes or Eurasian Wigeons. However plenty of SCAUP, LONG-TAILED DUCKS,
AMERICAN WIGEON,etc were around. Oakley St was frozen over so we had better
luck at nearby Great Marsh Park, where there was plenty of the above plus
three REDHEADS among the tons of CANVASBACKS.

Having made sure that Laura's list would get at least the one new entry this
year, we took off looking for a Rough-legged Hawk, or even a Smooth-legged
one if such a thing exists. On Egypt Road we located some LARKS - First the
HORNED variety near a flock of TUNDRA SWANS and then the MEADOW variety
further down toward Blackwater.

Maple Dam Rd produced plenty of NORTHERN HARRIERS, but no Rough-legs. Our
big thrill for the day here was 2 SHORT-EARED OWLS, one of which briefly
skirmished with one of the Harriers. This was at about 1 PM after we had
checked out Cedar Creek with nothing to report there.

So we headed to Eliott Island Rd. More harriers and some DUNLIN were nice
but the big find here was a WILSON'S SNIPE right next to the road.

Only other excitement were plenty of those big brown raptors with the white
heads and tails. Forget what they're called. Iggles?

Probably the biggest shock of the day came when we arived at home and found
a couple inches of white stuff all over it. The TV jerk said there was a
possibility of some flurries but nothing to worry about. Ok, so why am I all
sweaty from shoveling some flurries off my driveway?
