There was a nice raft of waterfowl on the Potomac this morning,
Thursday, February 26, midway between Violette's Lock and Riley's
Lock in Montgomery County.

Most notable were 90 (I counted 'em) Redheads, mostly drakes. Also
present were Gadwall, American Wigeon, both Scaup sp., Bufflehead,
and a handful of Canvasback. Further upstream were 2 Pied-billed
Grebe and 4 Horned Grebe.

We haven't birded locally for more than six weeks, so this was a
pleasant indication of late winter/early spring.
