This morning at Brighton Dam, Joe Hanfman and I spotted 3 male red-breasted mergs among about 400 common mergs. The red-necked grebe also showed up, as did 4 bald eagles.

Yesterday at the dam, there were about 1000 common mergs and 1 male red-breasted. A horned grebe was there in the early morning and also in the late afternoon.

Note that the large numbers of mergansers are usually present very early in the morning and again in the late afternoon. They disperse during the day.
