Hi Andy,
I'm not familiar with Rocky Rd. Where is it in relation to Rt. 108 x Brink
Rd. in Laytonsville? I saw a pair of Eastern Meadowlarks this morning, in the
farm field behind our house. Lots of bird activity there this morning, but
nothing really good besides the Meadowlarks. Red-winged BB and grackles, lots
of feeding Robins, Starlings, etc. on the ground in the large field. I was
hoping for (and scanning for) Horned Lark or Pipits. I caught a view of one of
the Meadowlarks flying along the edge of our yard then into the field to join
the other one. Sadly, neither sang for me. I love their song; it really
reminds me of early spring!

After dropping one of my boys off for some tutoring near Laytonsville, I
was pleased to find a couple of FOS Eastern Meadowlarks in a field along
Rocky Rd this afternoon around 4 pm.
Also enjoyed some time at a mini wetland area called Green Hills Farm
Wetlands off Huntmaster Rd. Signs posted in wetlands indicate its a MD
DOT mitigation project. This area is on northeast side of Huntmaster Rd
and a path on left side that takes you into wetlands puts afternoon sun
at your back. I enjoyed watching some ducks in flight (most were
mallards) but also watched a few Gadwall, Green-winged Teal, and Wood
Ducks fly in. Seems like an interesting area but don't recollect it
being mentioned by other Montgomery birders.
