Hi Felicia,
I was standing beside my shop this morning, around 10 AM, when I heard
one or more Wild Turkey gobbling from the woods beyond the field behind us.
I've often thought it looked like good turkey habitat, and it remains on my
"short-list" of birds I could likely expect here, hence my question
regarding the hunting season. Within about 45 minutes I began hearing gun shots
from the same direction, and just wondered whether I was hearing turkeys or
hunters calling turkeys. My wife looked up the seasons online, and it seems
the season doesn't start till tomorrow for youth, then on the 19th again. So
maybe I was hearing real turkeys after all? But then again, I hear gun
shots a lot here, even when I don't think there is any hunting season
underway. It would be yard bird #112.

Also saw some Common Loons passing over as well as a flock of 6 cormorants,
and my first Brown Thrasher in the yard this season.

The WILD TURKEY started calling from the Patapsco Valley SP woods this
morning.

They should continue calling for about a month (rarely seen).
