Phil posted and then magically, a Swainson's Warbler shows up on the eBird Google Gadget! Here's a link to the location where the bird was reported. I sent an email to Gary Graves at SI already. The reported location is in Sean McCandless's backyard in the NE corner of the state.

Subject: [MDOSPREY] In case anyone finds a Swainson's Warbler in Maryland

MD Osprey:

Because of conservation concerns for Swainson's Warbler, here at the northern reaches of its breeding range in Maryland, we typically do not post or publicize reports of any birds on territory in the Pocomoke River area.

However, if anyone should locate any birds this year, please advise Gary Graves, Curator of the Division of Birds at the Smithsonian Institution. Gary has been studying this species for years and has published a number of related papers. He has recorded vocalizations of birds in over 400 counties in the US, but has none from Maryland and he would like to record them here!

Any birds typically arrive when I'm in Alaska each spring, so I may be out of touch, electronically, and might not be able to get the word to Gary. So, if anyone does locate any birds, please contact Gary directly. Here is his contact info ...
