We were interested in finding Bank Swallows and spent an hour at the
shopping center this afternoon (a very slight detour from a previously scheduled
trip).

We were not able to convince ourselves that the birds we were seeing were
Bank Swallows. Seen from underneath, the adults seemed to have the buffy
throats of Rough-wingeds rather than a collar against clear white. Joe took
some pictures of the juveniles on which their buffy throats can be seen
clearly. There is a sort of darker collar, but there is no white. The adult
coming in to feed the young can be seen in a couple of photos; one shows an
adult with a brownish throat.

The birds' calls sounded like Rough-wingeds we have heard, and also like
that species on iBird Explorer and the Stokes recordings, though to be fair,
Stokes doesn't seem to have Bank Swallows.

As always, we will defer to experts, and would be interested to hear other
opinions.
