Hi --

I'd like to add that the bird (when we saw it) was further south of the
house, about even with a thin row of small trees perpendicular to Rt. 313,
on the east side. We saw the bird fly once or twice across the road, into
this row of trees, near the top but not visible, and remain out of sight for
a few minutes. Most of the time it was perched on the thinnest of the
roadside wires and made several sallies out over the road for insects. In
the scope a rather ragged-looking specimen, in rather heavy molt. And as
Jared notes, no tail streamers.

We had arrived at about 8:30 to find a MERLIN (!) perched in the dead tree
behind the house and a crop-duster flying overhead repeatedly at about 100"
(if not lower!) so figured a short detour into (gasp!) Delaware looking for
grasspipers might give the flycatcher time to recover and return. It seemed
to work! This has been a Maryland state "blocker" -- as the Brits say --
for some years for both of us!

On the way back we stopped at Central Sod Farm off John Brown Rd. and
conditions look good -- lots of wet areas. Unfortunately the sum total of
shorebirds were 5 Greater YLs, 1 Solitary SP, about 25-30 Killdeer and
perhaps 6-8 Semipalmated Sandpipers and a couple of Semi-p Plovers.

(We did see Baird's SP and Golden Plover in DE, but that's another story...)
