Yesterday I took my Johns Hopkins Ecology class on their first field trip of the course. At Soldier's Delight the most interesting sighting was one Keith Costley, but we didn't see much in the way of birds. At Oregon Ridge Park in the afternoon I heard a Purple Finch singing loudly in the walnut trees along the Creek near Shawan Road. I didn't see it until it flew off giving it's "pit" call.

I was surprised how early in the season this bird was and also surprised that it was singing.

Good birding, and enjoy this weather!
