Hi all,
I did some birding on Maryland's piedmont this weekend, mostly in Carroll
and Frederick counties, but also a bit in Montgomery and Howard counties. I
spent much of Saturday at Sugarloaf Mt. where the flocks of migrants were
somewhat high and fast moving, but pleasantly numerous and generally
cooperative considering the weather. A very fall-like morning with cool
termperatures, colorful foliage, and some later fall migrants including
Blue-headed Video and Dark-eyed Junco. Highlights were:

Along the Yellow, Blue, and White trails:
Common Raven (2)
Blue-headed Vireo (5, FOS)
Blackburnian Warbler (2)
Bay-breasted Warbler (a bright, well-marked bird)
Black-throated Green Warbler (2)
Black-throated Blue Warbler (9, seemingly everywhere)
Chestnut-sided Warbler
Black-and-white Warbler (6)
Palm Warbler
Common Yellowthroat (2)
Ovenbird

Later, at the summit:
Sharp-shinned Hawk

Even later at the West View parking area:
Ovenbird
DARK-EYED JUNCO (FOS)

In the evening I stopped by Brown's Bridge in the rain, but found it very
quiet:
Killdeer (2, Howard Only)
Green Heron (2, one in each county)

Today I birded with my brother Robert, mostly in Carroll county. We started
at Morgan Run which we found very birdy throughout our stay despite (or
perhaps because of) the fluctuations in the weather. Later we checked out
Hashawha and various random spots along country roads. We found the Taney
Turf farm to be mostly covered with soybean plants. Finally, we moved on to
Frederick county where we ran into Tom Feild and his wife, Geraldine. Here
we saw our best birds of the day, but I'll let Tom and Geraldine post since
they diserve the credit for all the best finds. Highlights are partly from
memory since Robert kept the lists part of the time.
