On my return trip to Annapolis from working in Calvert County, I
briefly checked again for the WEKI in the afternoon. No such luck.
I decided to make a quick trip out to Mayo Beach / Beverly Beach just
on the off chance that the bird made it to the Bay and decided to
forgo crossing. I could've chosen Shady Side, Dent Road, etc with
that same thought in mind, but time did not allow such an adventure.
At Mayo Beach there was a flyover MERLIN making the many Forster's
Terns tilt their heads and stare towards the skies. And at Beverly
Beach, I spotted a PIED-BILLED GREBE lounging fairly far out in the
Bay. Finally, there was one larger-looking bird perched on the
fishing nets (off of Beverly Beach) with the DC Cormorants. Brown
Pelican? Perhaps. But a positive ID of this elusive county bird
remains... elusive.
Good Birding,
