Blue Mash was hopping this morning with sparrow migration, as well as
some surprise shorebirds (including a pectoral) and an
uncommon-in-the-county Northern Harrier. Sparrows included four
Lincoln's and three FOS White-Crowned.
An unusual sight was seeing a male Tree Swallow come out of a flock to
chase a Lesser Yellowlegs that was flushed by the Harrier. I also
recently observed Northern Rough-winged Swallows chasing a juvenile
Red-headed Woodpecker. Not sure why migrating birds would expend the
energy to do this.
