Taking advantage of the definitely improved weather, Jennifer Kawar &
I went for a brief walk along the C&O canal and the Potomac late this
afternoon. Nothing extraordinary but we saw 6 woodpeckers congregate
with a few Bluebirds near the top of a sycamore, all within a few
minutes (2 Pileated, then a Downy, then 2 Northern Flickers arriving
separately, then a Red-bellied). Flying near the rocks and then
downriver, I was surprised to see 2 Green-backed Herons. Are they
late, or do some of them overwinter here?

Good birding to everyone,

	Evelyn
