I tried for the scoters this morning at around 10:30. I tried from both
the trail that leads in from the north off Martz Rd. and from the docks
on the south side without success. Except for the cove on the far
western end and the far southern fingers of the lake, I could see about
3/4 of the lake from those vantage points. Otherwise, there were just
the usual suspects out on the lake. If someone gets there in the next
day or so and has better lighting and visibility, look over the wigeon
flock. One of the females seemed to have a darker head than the others
but the mist and lighting was too poor to really see things clearly.
Didn't have time to get numbers of each:

Canada Goose
Mallard
Gadwall
American Wigeon
Ring-necked Duck
Lesser Scaup
Bufflehead
Hooded Merganser
Ruddy Duck
Pied-billed Grebe
Ring-billed Gull
Herring Gull

The Red-headed Woodpeckers that Bob mentioned in his post, at least one
anyway, was busy trying to fend off a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker from one
of its stash trees. There was quite a vocal exchange going on, with the
Red-headed doing most of the talking while it chased the sapsucker every
time it neared the one tree the Red-headed seemed to favor. This was
along one of the side trails off the northern Martz Rd. side. Also from
this side, there was a single LINCOLN'S SPARROW with several Song
Sparrows near the scrubby clearing at the point.
