I want to thank Bob Ringler and David Smith for doing WOODCOCK scouting trips last night to pin down the time the first birds of the evening are released, woops, I mean start peenting or whatever. They came up with 7:30.

Just a reminder that I am leading the famous Morgan Run Woodcock trip this Sat evening. Bring waterproof footwear and a flashlight. Or waterproof flashlights and footwear that lights up if you prefer. I will likely be there early - around 6 PM - and will probably wander around looking for Sparrows that maybe Bonnie Ott missed. Or an early migrator. Or maybe my long lost shaker of salt. (wastin' away again?).

Nonetheless I GUARANTEE that WOODCOCKS will be seen and heard. So if you have never seen this marvelous display described by my old buddy Aldo as a "Sky dance", you will see it on Sat. And for the record Aldo says in the April section of Sand County Almanac that the dance starts in his part of Wisconsin at exactly 6:50 PM on the first warm evening in April. Ours is later because we're further south. Trust me. ;-)
