Finally found a KENTUCKY WARBLER at Hashawa this AM.
I'm sure I've told the story on here about the one that once sang a
complete circle around me at a distance of no more than 30 yds at any point
and I never once got an eye or binoc on it. Never saw it move as it
continued to get to some magic point to the left of where it had been while
I tried desperately to find it. Took about 3 minutes to spin me in a
complete circle and I'm sure he got quite a chuckle over it.

So today I am sure this one was right in front of me a couple of times and
did the usual hide-behind-a-big-leaf trick. I moved to several different
vantage points to try to get an angle on it. How it can fly without being
seen is a mystery. These birds are like phantoms. I think they time it to
that instant when you are putting your binocs to your eyes and aren't able
to see them go.

As a consolation prize I got a VERY good look at a BARRED OWL. Stared right
back at me. Wish warblers would act like that.

Jerry Tarbell.
