Yesterday at Swan Harbor Farm Park in Harford County, I counted 224
Purple Martins lining the telephone wires along the dirt entrance
road. There are martin houses on the park property, but obviously they
don't come close to this number, even after the newborns have fledged.
I counted 25 there on June 26th. I'm thinking these martins are
gathering from the surrounding area, feeding on insects to fatten up
for their ~5,000 mile journey to South America.

This number pales in comparison to the numbers you can see in the
Nanticoke River area in August, but it's still pretty neat to see.
Here's to their successful journey!

Another highlight was my first of the fall Northern Harrier.
