During my lunch break today I stopped by Druid Hill Park to see if any ducks
were there. I saw Mallard, Ruddy Duck, and a Ring-necked Duck.
I surprised to find four juvenile Pied-billed Grebes begging an adult bird
on the north side of the large lake. They were able to dive; but preferred
begging the adults when they surfaced. Another two juvenile birds chased
after a second adult, then a third adult bird was found far from the others.
The young grebe were nearly the same size as the adults; but still had
red-orange on the bill and some rufous coloration on the head and neck.
