I've also seen a Red-tailed Hawk frequently, just a few blocks away (K Street & 27th). He was there this afternoon around 4:30 as I was walking from Georgetown to the Foggy Bottom subway. He was sitting on the top of a pole in the little triangle of land where the Whitehurst Freeway comes into K Street. It's one of his favorite perches. Once, as I was crossing the bridge over the parkway, he flew directly toward me and then veered off to land in the grass not far from where I was standing. There was a little squeak and then he took off again with a mouse, the tail hanging down as he flew -- so I guess there's a reason he hangs out there!

While I was pointing out a Red-tailed Hawk that had just landed in the tree above me to a woman and her young son, a Kestrel dive-bombed the hawk.  The youngster wasn't impressed:  "I could climb up there & get it!" he declared.

I've seen at least one Red-tail in that area each time I've walked through in the past week.
