Hi Everybody:

Brad Lanning called me earlier this afternoon and relayed that friends of his from West Virginia (Barry and ? - my apologies for forgetting the other name) were in Hagerstown today and checked out the area behind the poolhouse at the end of Sedgewick Way behind the Centre at Hagerstown Mall. They found a SHRIKE perched and feeding in the same area that it was originally reported in August of 2009. When questioned Brad said that they did not say one way or the other whether Northern or Loggerhead.

Brad called me a second time (after leaving work early) and shortly before dusk he found the Shrike and in his opinion he felt that it was an adult LOGGERHEAD. For anybody that decides to chase tomorrow he said to also look along the small trees on the far side of the tennis court. For specific directions please check the MDOsprey archives for August, 2009 and look for Bill Hubick's post of directions that he correctly posted when the bird was first found.

On a separate note I went out before work (and daylight) this morning and found my first Barred Owl of the season on Hunting Quarter Road. I later had my first Great Horned Owl on River Road beyond the intersection of Willard Road. In an attempt for the owl trifecta I missed on E. Screech Owl but did have a second Barred Owl call on W. Offutt Rd. I checked the Potomac River at Edward's Ferry for waterfowl but came up empty. It is not surprising because there are duck hunters out in decent numbers in their boats looking for success.
