This afternoon my wife gave me the green light to bird for 45 minutes!
So I decided to make the most of my time and dropped by Bay Ridge and
Thomas Point Park.

First off, the gulls are everywhere. Numbering in the thousands and
consisting primarily of Ring-billed and Herring Gulls, there were a
few Greater Black-backed Gulls as well, they were around in numbers
I've not experienced at these two locations ever.

Possible cause: there was a sizable fish kill reported (natural
causes, due to colder than normal water temperature) yesterday at Bay
Ridge, Sandy Point and other locations.

Gulls were in the hundreds on the water resting in the cove to the
North of Thomas Point. They were flying South in steady streams off
of Bay Ridge and Thomas Point. They were on every piling and nearly
every pier. It was an impressive sight... and I think the counters on
tomorrow's Annapolis CBC better have some clickers in hand. ; )

The Canvasback and Scaup rafts have increased in size over the past
few weeks. No Redhead detected today, but there have been one or two
around this winter. There were three Gadwall working the rip rap at
Bay Ridge and a handful of Hooded Mergs off the point. The usual
suspects were also present on the water and feeding around the many
jetties.

Good Birding,
