Through eBird and word of mouth many of you know that the Northern Shrike that
has been wintering on Chino Farms in Queen Anne's County has returned for
another winter. Maren Gimpel and I first noticed the Shrike this fall on October
20, 2010.  This is the fourth winter this bird has spent on the farm.

We did not post the arrival of the Shrike because it has spent most it's time so
far on private property, largely out of view from nearby roads. The Shrike has
mostly been using parts of a 220 acre restored CPR grassland. However, Maren and
I found the Shrike today perched atop an Osage Orange tree on Kibler Road. We
first saw the bird perched about 200 meters north of rt 544, this is about a
mile from where it has been spending most of the winter thus far.

Hopefully it will stick in an area that is easily seen from public roads.
