Hughes Hollow was initially very unbirdy this morning when I met with
Linda Friedland around 8 AM. But things improved considerably after we
managed to get past the ice on the main dyke. We had nice views of an
adult Red-headed Woodpecker working the bare tree trunks on the right
side of the fields past the dyke, and practically at the same time had
a cooperative Hermit Thrush closer to us. Other highlights: a Yellow-
rumped Warbler in spring colors, and the beautiful song of a Winter
