Hi all --

Sorry for the late post but I had to leave DC at 11 AM to attend a meeting
in
Woodbridge, and only got back a little while ago.

Barry and I also did Hains Point today (as well as the Tidal Basin) --
there
the over 1000 Canadas in the Washington Channel, which is completely
thawed, and we picked out about 7 Cackling Geese amongst the lot -- a
little group of three were close under the wall at Ft. McNair and another
group out in the channel.

Didn't see any Merlins today but we did manage to tick up the BLACK
-CAPPED CHICKADEE which has been hanging out around the 1st
circular toilet block (heading north on the river side from the point.) New
DC bird! He actaully sang a little of his spring song -- probably happy
after
yesterday's raw weather. He was loosely in company of a couple of Tufted
Tits.

The Tidal basin is partly frozen and had a number of loafing gulls but
nothing unusual could be found -- a Pied-bill Grebe was the only
waterfowl of interest there.
