Since it is in Maryland waters, thought my report below to VA-bird might
be of interest to MDOspreyers.

The Red-necked Grebe first reported 10 days ago by Dorothy Tella continues

above the dam at Conn Island on the Potomac River. It is usually seen
within 100 ft. of the dam overflow.

The abundance of waterfowl also still remains on the stretch of the
Potomac
between the Riverbend visitors' center and the dam. The largest
concentration is usually along the west side of Conn Island. At least 500

Ring-necked Ducks can be found there interspersed with several smaller
groups of
Redhead ducks totaling at least 70 birds. Other ducks today included 2
Canvasbacks, 10 Lesser Scaup, 10 American Wigeon (in the company of some
200
Coots), and 20 or more Bufflehead. Below the dam were 12 American
Mergansers, as well as several Black Ducks and Mallards. Rounding out
the list of
water-oriented birds were Great Blue Herons, a noisy Belted Kingfisher,
Ring-billed Gulls and Canada Geese.
