There were a lot of birds at and over Schoolhouse Pond this morning. Spring arrivals included 11 Tree Swallows flying high overhead, over the water, and perching on the wood duck boxes. In addition to the regular Mallards and Canada Geese, waterfowl included 1 female Red-breasted Merganser, 11 Northern Shovelers, and 2 Ruddy Ducks. Among the large numbers of Ring-billed and Herring Gulls flying towards the landfill was one 1st winter Lesser Black-backed Gull. The only raptor that I saw was a flyover Sharp-shinned Hawk.
