From the brief glimpse I got while driving across Chain Bridge this morning it looked like a lot of waterfowl, including some common mergansers, are sheltering in the calm waters of Chain Bridge Flats.  The Potomac itself is, of course, in an uproar!
 

 One of the most strange things I saw this morning was a road-kill beaver ... in the middle of the bridge.  Poor thing must have been REALLY disoriented to be that high up and far away from the towpath.
