In the last three days, several first-of-year birds in my yard in Silver
Spring. The most uncommon bird was seen this morning---a male Purple Finch.
It's the first one I've seen since probably November. Yesterday, a male and
female Eastern Towhee, which is also very uncommon in my yard. And
approximately 10 Chipping Sparrow at one time. American robins are building
nests, as are the European starlings, which are breaking and using new foliage
from my bee balm plants.

Nearby, along Sligo Creek Parkway, west of Colesville Rd, two pairs of
Yellow-crowned night herons continue to build nests.

In downtown Silver Spring today, I saw the continuing Peregrine Falcon land on
the Hilton hotel.
