Few migrants come thru our area, so we cherish our residents all the more. One
of our favorites was the local Barred Owl, which we often heard at night. But
we've missed him since last October. Also, we've missed our friendly 1st yr
Red-shoulder, which would fly across our yard every day all winter. At the same
time, we do hear mobs of crows from time to time, as if those 2 were still being
targeted - but where are they?
This AM Jane followed an especially raucous "murder" of crows down our
floodplain to its focus. In the mob were some Red-shoulders - not as targets of
the crows, but allies! Then she spotted the answer to the mystery.
Yard bird 117 - Great Horned Owl.
