Hi Everybody: After leaving work later than I expected I did an indirect run to Hughes Hollow. On the way I stopped along Sugarland Road near Montivideo Rd. The field of cornstubble is still flooded near the road. It contained 2 Mallards, 4 Solitary Sandpipers, 7 Lesser Yellowlegs and 1 Wilson's Snipe. I encountered the same isolated storm pattern mentioned by Robert Ostrowski and found wooded areas further along Sugarland Rd. surprisingly quiet.

At Hughes Hollow I heard but did not see the Purple Gallinule but did not spend alot of time looking for it. Several Baltimore Orioles and 1 Orchard Oriole were actively singing. I saw my first Great Egret at Hughes Hollow for the season. About a month ago I posted about hearing and then seeing a female Hooded Merganser with 11 young. In the large impoundment on the left I saw her once again, this time with 9 young following closely behind her. Their survival rate is fairly successful if only two were lost within the past month.

Hope that all those that could not get out to Hughes Hollow during the week to see Dave Powell's Purple Gallinule will get a chance to see it over the weekend.
