Eastern Avenue, which is the southern boundary of the park, is closer to the pond. It can be busy, but there's usually a parking spot somewhere. From there once you've walked uphill you'll come to the southern edge of the pond. 

Parking between Rose and Luzerne Streets would be perfect. You want to be a few blocks east of the Ukrainian Church. Patterson Perk is a good nearby landmark.
