Going north on 270 yesterday, June 24, about 6:30 PM, I saw a very large long-winged raptor not too high up- just east of the highway near the Falls Road-or Rockville exchange, soaring with a slight and then no dihedral and flapping some of the short time it was visible -almost certainly an eagle-but what caught my eye were large brilliant white patches lit by the low western sun, back from the under-wing coverts and toward the wing tips. I know that this is a field-mark of a juvenile Golden Eagle and while such a sighting seems exceedingly unlikely I thought I'd post it on the chance that someone else saw it.
