An excellent find! I work along the Anacostia, but couldn't try for the
birds until lunch time. I manned the waterfront near the Navy Yard for
about 30 minutes (12:30-1:00), but no sign of any terns. I was aware of
the KenCen birds, but alas, I never went to look for them (DC wasn't yet
on my birding radar). I regret it now, as it's a big hole in my DC
list.

Gull numbers are going up, with 2 Herring Gulls now with the
Ring-billeds (c.40) and 1 Great Black-backed. I believe the Herrings
were juveniles. The Ring-billeds were all adults, but the juveniles
should start showing up any day now.

Per Jason, the DCB (DC Birders gang) happily welcomes all. The rite of
initiation is easy - correctly identify all the birds flying over the
Ridge in a 30 minute period on a fall morning. If that's too difficult,
there's an unwritten rule about greasing palms with sunflower seeds or a
good Speyside scotch.
