Hi all,

I birded around Montgomery today and had a few decent birds. Highlight was two Common Terns seen upstream from Riley's Lock.

I started the day off at Little Falls at around 6:30. I had a flyby Caspian Tern at around 7AM, and 9(!) Black Crowned Night Herons hunting around the falls (scattered by 7:15). I then went up to Blue Mash Nature Trail to check the ponds for shorebirds. The landfill pond was dreadfully low and devoid of shorebird life (but I'm sure that will change after today's rains!) Consolation was nice looks at a Blue Grosbeak.

After a rest back at home, I went back out after the afternoon showers. I brought my bike along hoping to have time to check the full length of summitt hall turf farm. On the way out, I stopped by Violette's lock and noticed two terns flying together waaay upstream. Seemed like they would be worth a closer look so I hopped on the bike and chased them down. I located the terns on a log upstream ~.5-.75mi from rileys. Turns out they were common terns showing carpal bar, solid black cap extending down around nape but with white forehead, and dark primaries appearing to extend past tail. A third forsters/common tern was also present but I couldn't get a good look before the rain picked back up heavily. After a soggy ride back to Violettes, I went up to Summitt Hall. There are some good puddles at the pipeline break (.7mi up from sycamore). Few shorebirds tonight though, killdeer, semi and least sand, and a few pectorals. Unfortunately I ran out of time at this point and had to cut my ride short.
