This morning I took a walk up to the study area and clear cut. The clear area itself was pretty quiet. I was a little on edge since so quiet and I saw a hunters PA truck parked at the road with the deer rack on the back. I felt a little better after a couple of joggers wernt by me. I saw one house wren and a Eastern Phoebe. I did see a flocks of bluejays, a group of mourning dove and another group of what looked like swallows flying over the clear cut area. One the way pass the thinned area I heard and saw Chickadee, Titmouse, Carolina Wren, WB Nuthatch, Bluejays, Crows, RedBellied Woodie, Pileated woodie.
I also took a walk around the pine tree loop and stopped at all the places where I saw the Devils walking stick growing looking for the warblers. One the upper part of the loop. I heard many bluejays, crows, I saw a catbird eating the berries off the walking stick. I had a great view of a Pileated woodie flying away, also a Hairy woodpecker and again heard many Redbellied woodies and Downy woodpeckers. A real woodpecker morning on the loop trail.
On the way around the loop I stopped again at the devils walking stick and found a male Black Throated Blue Warbler and a little further on I saw the female Black Throated Blue. This area was very birdie. Lots of Titmouse, chickadees, cardinals, downies, redbellied and the Hairy woodpeckers.
Here is a link to a photo of the female Black Throated Blue and a photo of the berries.
