It was a banner day for mimids at Lake Needwood. I counted over forty
Catbirds, a dozen Brown Thrashers and seven Mockingbirds in the
thickets and fields around Needwood Mansion and the lake. The ripe
berries were attracting many birds, including a Rose-breasted
Grosbeak. Not much warbler activity though. Waterfowl on the lake are
increasing in number (8 Wood Duck, ~20 Mallard, and a possible
Pied-Bill Grebe) so the restored water levels post-dredging should
attract more ducks and waterfowl this year. The full ebird list is
