The Mall has been generally a dismal place to bird this year, with all the construction. Despite this, I was able to get an excellent look at an Orange-crowned Warbler in the Mary Ripley Garden today. It was between the A&I Building (under construction) and the Hirshhorn Museum, opposite the gate to the A&I parking lot, in the dense shrubs along the wall.
If you come down all the way to the Mall, wait patiently in that area, and end up seeing see a Common Yellowthroat, do not leave cursing my name! While there are often Yellowthroats in the garden, I got an excellent look at this bird (after a lot of lurking and walking back and forth).
