Birding friends -

A Calliope Hummingbird has been a regular visitor in a garden near
Easton for the past several days. The home owner lives near Easton, but in
a townhouse in a private community so parking is quite limited. To get
access, birders must call her to find out how to get there, where to park,
and get her OK as to when to come. .

This is the first ever record of this species for Talbot County,
and after review will be the fourth ever of the species to be confirmed for
the State of Maryland. Hence, it is a high-interest bird for the region,
and it would be all too easy to trigger a deluge of cars and birders into a
site that cannot accommodate lots of people. That is why it is necessary
for you to call first and talk to the home owner - so things do not get too
crowded around her place. The home owner and her husband are happily
welcoming visitors, but just do not want too many all at once.

Guidelines when you get there:

Do not park on the grass.

Do not block driveways or garages of her neighbors.

Do - park at the end of the road that passes her house and then
walk back the short distance to her door.

Car pool if it is reasonably handy to do so.

This notice is going out at this time to Maryland Ornithological
Society members and friends through MDOSPREY. Please do not give wider
national publicity to this sighting. In particular, do not place this
sighting onto e-Bird at this time.

The bird has been photographed for use in the report for the MOS
Records Committee.

To arrange the time for your visit, phone the home owner at
410-822-1966. She will provide directions to her home.

This bird has been frequenting her yard since October 23rd, and is
pretty reliable, but of course it could depart at any time.
