I birded Pt. Lookout this morning. Highlights included very high numbers of Bufflehead. I counted 192 by the causeway, and there were also about 75 at the fishing pier and 6 at The Point. I also had smaller numbers of Common Goldeneye (4 at the causeway), Common Loon (causeway and fishing pier), and a single Red-breasted Merganser at The Point. There were also 11 Forster's Terns at the causeway. I hiked the Periwinkle Trail hoping for a Red-headed Woodpecker, but no luck there. I did see quite a few Brown-headed Nuthatches. Biggest miss for the day was a large brown bird that I flushed on the trail. It appeared heron-like in flight, but unfortunately I did not have a good enough look to confirm it as a bittern.
