My wild goose chase failed to find the Barnacle Goose. I visited many
locations in the Owings Mills, Reisterstown, Pikesville and in the caves
valley area where I have previously found congregations of Canada Goose and
waterfowl.

After reading the field guide and viewing images online I am confident that
the bird was in fact a Barnacle Goose.

If you are interested I added more detail into my earlier post. See below...

This may be a crazy post; but I just saw what appeared to be a Barnacle
Goose **(BARG)** fly over my home in Randallstown with eight Canada Goose
**(CANG)**. It could turn out to be a strange Canada; but this smaller goose
had a dark head (white cheeks) and a dark neck that extended onto the
breast. The belly was bright ‹ much brighter than the Canadas. The wing
linings were light. **At the time I had no idea what it was; but I thought I
had a good description.**

The small flock, flying from west to east, had a smaller bird that I hoped
would be a Cackling Goose. They turned north and **momentarily split -- five
CANGs move slightly east and the BARG could not decide which group to join.
It first moved with the five CANG** passed over the house. **Before they
disappeared all nine birds were together again.** They were approximated two
to three times higher than a tulip poplar.

I¹m going on a wild goose chase!
