Bob Augustine and I drove down to the Elms Environmental Education Center
in southern St. Mary's County today to search for the Barrow's Goldeneye
reported the last two days. We got it !! It was, as reported, in with a
large group of Common Goldeneye out by some stakes in the water. If you go
to look; park in the DNR hunter's lot, on the right, before the locked
gate. Walk down the road to the beach. Walk up (north/left) the beach to
the large fallen trees and look at the stakes in the water just ahead. The
bird was there today. It acts differently than the other Goldeneye and
flies around in circles occasionally. That is how we found it. Very nice
bird, with a clear crescent on the face. A LIFE BIRD for me. MERRY
CHRISTMAS!!
