The first time I visited Kershner's Pond several years ago, a woman from
the house next to the pond (Mrs. K?) came out to chat. She was very friendly
and said that they enjoy having birders there and did not mind people
standing on the driveway or on the grass. However, I always park on the ample
grassy shoulder along Rt.17 just north of the driveway.
For what it's worth, I was there yesterday for about an hour and did not
see the Ross's Goose. I made several scans from the driveway, from a high
point along Rt. 17 just north of the driveway, and from the dogleg a little
farther north. There were some geese on the pond but most of them were in
several groups on the lawns and in the fields beyond the house. It's possible
the Ross's was in one of the few places where it might be hidden from view.
I hope so, and I hope someone has a positive report this weekend, but I'm
concerned that it may no longer be there.
