MD Osprey:

It's somewhat serendipitous that we currently have a (maybe)
chaseable Barnacle Goose in Maryland and today is also the date of
the official announcement of the acceptance of this species onto the
Official List of the Birds of Maryland. The MD/DCRC web products
(official list, database, review list, etc.) will be updated shortly;
however, we wanted to pass the word now, in conjunction with the
presence of the Chestertown bird.

MD/DCRC Chair, Bill Hubick will shortly be sending out some
background information on the sightings that the committee has just accepted.

The Barnacle Goose acceptance brings the number of species on the
Official List of the Birds of Maryland up to 439.

Note that the Chestertown bird is still subject to review by the
MD/DCRC in terms of whether or not it will be accepted as an
additional Maryland record.

Phil

PS. FYI, my report of my sighting of the Chestertown bird this
morning is here ... (and no laughing at my sketch!) ...

The geese flock had mostly flown in to the field by about 8:15 am and
then it was just a simple (!) matter of locating it among the
thousands of Canada Geese.
