After stopping off at the bank ATM and area post office, I made a brief
check on Lake Roland. Only 3 notable sightings:
1. A resident RS Hawk made an abrupt "splash-down" just to my left,
on the ground below the boardwalk, about 15' away. As it mantled
its presumed prey, I fumbled to get my camera out, on, and off "sleep
mode" for a snapshot. Alas, it flew off before I could get a pic--and,
empty handed (taloned?).
2.The Red-headed W'pkr was on station, looking more "Red-headed"
than ever. Got a quick, offhand pic, before it started to move about.
3.Got an overhead look at a circling adult Bald Eagle.
Also, on my way back past the spot where the RS whiffed on its prey, I
spotted the bird about 100 yds. off, perched on a limb and actively eyeing
the area. Must be hungry.
