From Pennyfield Lock to Rileys Saturday AM I found a good variety of waterfowl on or near the Potomac River including:
2 common mergansers
many double-crested cormorants
5 pied-billed grebe
wood duck pair (Dierssen WMA)
11 blue-winged teal
4 green-winged teal (Dierssen WMA)
1 horned grebe
mallards
3 greater scaup
4 great egrets (Dierssen WMA)
5 Bonaparte’s gulls - first year and adult breeding plumages

also eastern palm, yellow throated, yellow-rumped warblers, ruby-crowned kinglets
Finally, several large and noisy charms of American goldfinches
